Souren Ala - Persian Gardens
After a brief run through of the human, geographical and historical context, Souren will look at the char-bagh structure of Persian gardens and illustrate some outstanding examples through time. Derivative motifs, art forms, international influences, and modern parks and gardens will also be touched upon.
He grew up in the UK and Iran, and lived in south-western USA until returning to the UK in 1998. He has an advanced degree in Geology, and spent ten years involved in hydrocarbon exploration and contaminated land investigation prior to taking up his current career. He is largely self-taught in Horticulture, building on a Level II RHS certificate obtained at the turn of the Millennium. For the last 23 years he has been engaged in garden design, creation and planting. He has a particular interest in bulbs and wildflower meadows.
