YDGS Autumn Show 2026

In spite of the very hot and dry summer we have endured, our annual Yateley and District Garden Club Flower, Produce and Handicraft Show on August 29th attracted 52 exhibitors and 240 entries from both members and non-members. There were a large number of exhibits of vegetables, fruit and flowers which made a very colourful display in the church and hall of St Peters Church. 

Exhibits of tomatoes attracted the largest number of entries as growing conditions were ideal whereas no runner beans were exhibited as growing conditions were too severe.,  Dahlias attracted the largest number of entries in the flower section and there were also colourful displays of cut flowers in vases. In the pot plant section, the best exhibit was the stapelia succulent with its buds that were about to flower.

In the produce section, carrot cakes were the most numerous which made judging very difficult as there are so many recipes for this type of cake. The arts section attracted some very attractive drawings, sketches and photographs illustrating my garden.  Lego models, not from a kit, were the most popular and inventive in the children’s section.

There were many visitors to the Show some of whom we hope will be encouraged to grow their own and exhibit next year.  Liz Perry won the Brooks Trophy for the most points whilst Cherie Cheetham was the Peoples’ choice for the best exhibit.
