As Colin explained, success with house plants is all about recreating the natural conditions in which they thrive. In the case of orchids this amounts to maintaining them in a humid atmosphere through regular misting with water and ensuring their roots have access to light. This can be achieved by placing them in a translucent container, such as a decorative glass vase, with some moss applied to the surface to help maintain humid conditions around them.
A natural and entertaining speaker Colin has a wealth of knowledge from his varied career in horticulture. He has lectured in horticultural science and is now a consultant and broadcasts with BBC Radio Berkshire and Oxford. His ability to inform and entertain with a splash of humour ensured that members had a most enjoyable evening.
